Provide a music ‘corner’ with stimulating musical activities in listening, composing and performing.

Engage in music chants and games in groups.

Move to music as much as possible with known and self-devised dance as a means to respond kinaesthetically to the elements of music.

Sing as much as possible, using known songs, and develop a repertoire of new songs.

Use musical instruments (including body percussion) to listen, compose and perform, encouraging the development of musical language.

Encourage children to record their compositions using graphic and symbolic forms of notation and to begin to experiment with conventional notation.

Access, listen and respond to diverse styles of music from world cultures. Use this music as a stimulus for self-devised musical composition.
